But, alas, this weekend another reason was discovered. On my way home for President’s Day, I stopped by the Newbury Street Johnny Cupcakes store in Boston to take pictures for my photojournalism class. The pictures for this assignment were supposed to be of a special place, and with all the bakery-themed decorations, I couldn’t think of a place that was more special. Okay, that sounded kind of corny, but it’s the truth. I’ve loved the Johnny Cupcakes brand for a few years now. If you haven’t heard of Johnny Cupcakes or the story behind the brand, the brief version is that Johnny Earle started making designs and selling t-shirts out of the trunk of his ’89 Toyota Camry back in 2001. Now, due to his creativity, dedication, and refusal to sell out to large chains, Johnny is a millionaire and a respected young businessman with a great story. I love the brand, I love the logo, and the story just makes it all even better. So, like I said, I really didn’t need another reason to love Johnny Cupcakes. But, just hanging out in the Newbury Street store for a few hours gave me many more reasons. With it’s chill, welcoming vibe and friendly employees, the Johnny Cupcakes store definitely filled the requirements of this photo assignment. Check out the pictures below.

Many customers were coming in and out of the shop, excited for the latest Johnny Cupcakes release.

The Johnny Cupcakes / Nick Collaboration Hey Arnold! Shirt. Definitely bought one of these for myself!

Part of the latest batch of t-shirt releases, the Kitchen Fire Rescue long sleeve tee is a nod to firefighters everywhere.

One of my favorite photos from the JC shoot, this picture shows a close up of a part of the front window display of the Newbury Street store.

A loyal JC customer came in to pick up some more JC gear. Then, he kindly modeled for me:

Alex was decked out in a Johnny Cupcakes sweater and hat, and he was kind enough to pose for the camera.

JC Employee Atem working hard...or hardly working?

True to the bakery decor, all the JC pins are displayed in a cupcake tin at the register.

Another Johnny Cupcakes customer checking out the t-shirts on display.

A Johnny Cupcakes oven mitt and JC gift boxes displayed on top of the bakery-esque display case.

Lastly, before I left the JC employees were tossing fruit snacks back and forth to see who could catch it in their mouth.
I think I may have to consider working at a Johnny Cupcakes store as a back up career–looks like an awesome place to work and I’m guessing I’d get a sweet discount on some awesome JC gear.
So, if I needed anymore convincing (which I didn’t), hanging out in the Boston Johnny Cupcakes store for a few hours did the trick–and made me want to be an employee. A brand that makes you want to work for them is a brand you can trust!
